The day to day life of a working mama who knows she'll never, ever sleep past 6:30 am again.

precious moments
Last night, around 1:15, I was awakened to the sound of sweet Pete's voice saying "Need Mama. Need Mama." When I went in there, he said "Hi, Mama. Blow nose." I LOVE that he's so proficient with his communication skills and can get his needs met. Makes for a happy boy and happy parents ;) But after I helped with his stuffy nose, he needed to snuggle and rock a bit. I finally put him back down around 1:35 and crawled into bed myself. For all of about 15 minutes. Poor guys just couldn't breathe. So I sat up with him for a while, trying to drain his clogged nose enough that he'd be able to sleep comfortably. All the while, selfishly lamenting the fact that I'm supposed to wake up at 5:15 to get my run before heading to work. Crabbing about being cold and not being able to sleep myself. Bitter because I wouldn't be able to take a nap today because I had to teach.
Just generally having a bad attitude. Not like it was HIS fault. I'm sure he'd have preferred NOT be sick. But I digress.
Right about this time, as I was grumbling to myself about my bad luck, Pete leaned into my arm, gave a big smooch ("MWAH. MMmmmm-WAH!"), and said "I love you, Mama."
(insert photo of me melting into a big pile of goo.)
Yeah, so I skipped my run this morning, and sure, I'm pretty tired. But to have those moments with my little man snuggling in, giving unsolicited I-love-yous, and finally falling asleep in my arms, it was pretty blissful. And for a second kid who never had the chance to be rocked to sleep for fear that his big sister would burn the house down while I was putting the baby to sleep, I don't have that many chances to have a sleeping Pete in my arms.
Note to self: Enjoy it while it lasts, K?

look what we did all for under $10!
Howdy. Happy New Year and all. It's been a crazy few weeks in our house, as I'm sure it has in yours as well. This week, I've taken inventory and realized that the toys outnumber the humans at a ratio of about 35:1. But given that we've spent lots of extra cash on said toys, there's not a lot in the budget for storage. Enter a stroke of genius. It all started with a Pinterest pin called "10 Things You Can Make from Cereal Boxes."
Just look what it sparked...
I have an obscene number of corrugated cardboard boxes around here from all the things that small people need to exist. Of course, I enlisted the help of 2 of my favorite girls, my mom and my daughter. All said, it was pretty easy. Just a bit of spray paint for the insides of the boxes, some pretty fabric, some spray adhesive and Aleene's Tacky Glue, and a few extra pairs of hands, and VOILA...instant cute storage. I think I spent a whopping $7 making the three boxes because I already had the 2 types of glue. I'm already looking around the house for other places that need a splash of color and a bit of storage.
Sigh. I love Pinterest.
In other news, my New Year's Resolution is to get back to blogging. Well, not really a resolution because I don't really believe in them. More like a promise. But I need to be realistic. I'm still doing travel planning (insert shameless plug here- email me at alisong@mei-travel.com for your next getaway!), AND teaching 4th grade AND am a mom of 2 action-packed kiddos, AND I try to get a bit of sanity from time to time. But blogging is on the priority list, so fingers crossed, I'll be back in 2012.
Until next time-
